All our training courses and materials are custom-developed. You can see samples in the section Download Materials. Training programs are structured so that even though each student is assigned primary and secondary instructors, any other instructor can pick up at any point in training without unnecessary reevaluation. Each student's progress is closely monitored by the Chief Pilot to help resolve any issues that might arise during training to prevent them from turning into full-blown problems. We also understand the busy life of New Yorkers and your desire to maximize your time on the ground during bad weather. That's why our courses include extensive use of simulators, "dry flying" (practicing procedures on the ground), and computer technology. This means that if you want to train full-time, you can still complete your training in the same time it would take at Flight Safety or other major schools.
Once you have your license, you can rent our meticulously maintained airplanes for your pleasure and traveling needs. All inspections are done on time, and all discrepancies are taken care of in the prompt and efficient manner. The current inspection status of all airplanes along with current weight and balance data and other pertaining information is posted in the section Fleet. Our web-based scheduling system allows you to book your lessons or rental any time day or night. If it becomes necessary to ground an airplane due to a mechanical problem, we have it our top priority to notify you about your options.
Hi, my name is Julian Zagorodnev. I'm the founder of Airborn Flight Services, Inc. I am also a Certified Flight Instructor.
When I was ten years old, I knew that I wanted to be a pilot; however, back in Russia, there were only two ways one could become a professional pilot -- Air Force and airlines. Both required perfect health and total political compliance with the Communist Party's requirements. Having a health problem and taking into account the fact that my father was too close to dissidents, I was forbidden not only from becoming a pilot but also from many other professions.
Fast forward twenty years. I'm in America, working as a computer consultant in a prominent company. As luck would have it, it was very close to an airport. So close that a turn from base to final for one of the runways was right above our building. I could see all airport operations from an office window across the hall. By that time, my dream of real flight was practically dead, but at least I could fly Microsoft Simulator. In fact, the latest version came with a coupon for an introductory flight costing only $39. Why not? I took that opportunity and for the first time in my life discovered what it was to be a pilot. More important was the discovery that physically there was nothing too demanding in piloting an aircraft. My instructor encouraged me to try to get a medical certificate. From that point, it was a string of miracles. This was also a path full of self-doubt, uncertainty, and hard work. I have had many excellent instructors but nobody had went through so many conflicting emotions as I had, so it was hard for them to relate to me.
